Abstract
Floating point unit (FPU) is one of the most important custom applications needed in most hardware designs as it adds accuracy and ease of use. Recently, the floating point units of several commercials processors like IBM power PC; Intel/HP titanium, MIPS-compatible loongson-2F and HP PA-8000 have included a floating point fused multiply add (FMA) unit to execute the double –precision fused multiply add operation A+(B*C) as an indivisible operation, with no intermediate rounding.
